The 2020 Editorial Board Meeting of Acta Palaeontologica Sinica held in Hezheng of Gansu Province

In October 17, 2020, the 12th Third Council Meeting of the Paleontological Society of China (PSC) and the Editorial Board Meeting of Acta Palaeontologica Sinica were held in Hezheng, Gansu Province, China. More than 20 members of the editorial board, editors-in-chief and deputy editors attended the meeting.

Wang Yongdong, the Vice-President of PSC and Editor-in-Chief of Acta Palaeontologica Sinica, reported to the council meeting on the progress of Acta Palaeontologica Sinica for 2019-2020. He introduced the positive results achieved over the past year in terms of editorial board renewal, journal reforming, publication of special issues, online submission and review system, online and multimedia message pushing, editorial specification and youth editorial team building.

Zhan Renbin, the President of PSC attended the meeting and delivered a speech, commenting positively on the reform and progress made by the new editorial board in the revision and publication over the past year, and expressing his gratitude to the work of the editorial board members. He pointed out that the development of Acta Palaeontologica Sinica requires the joint efforts of all editorial board members and Council members of PSC, to adhere to the international perspective, organize excellent sources of manuscripts, publish high-level articles, and take a new step in the layout and printing design. Zhan then presented the certificates of editorial board and the certificates of editor-in-chief and vice editor-in-chief to the participating editorial board members. Wang Yongdong introduced the composition of the new editorial board that includes 25 active and young and middle-aged researchers, from diverse institutes and universities, with authority and representativeness in the discipline, taxonomy and chronostratigraphy. In addition, 7 experts in paleontology from Germany, England, France, Japan, Romania and Norway were invited to serve as international editorial board members. 

The editorial board members who participated in themeeting were active in speaking and acknowledged the many initiatives taken by the journal over the past year in reforming, editing and reviewing manuscripts. They also made positive suggestions on the innovative development of the journal, including increasing the number of manuscript sources, improving the quality of graphics and text, emphasizing cover design, completing the online submission and review system, shortening the publication cycle, improving the quality of editing and printing, enriching the column settings, selecting excellent articles, strengthening the new media, and utilizing the role of foreign editorial board members. It was emphasized that editorial board and council should play a role in manuscript organization actively, optimization of the submission and review online system, improvement of the editing and reviewing efficiency We should pay attention to the training of young editorial talents and strengthen international exchange, to make international editorial board play a role in strengthening the connection with the Asian Palaeontological Association (APA).

As the official journal of PSC, the Acta Palaeontologica Sinica, has been selected as the "Outstanding Academic Journal of International Influence in China" for four consecutive years since 2016, and was selected as a T1-level high-quality scientific journal in the field of geology in July 2020, which becomes an important plateform for the promotion and communication of paleontological achievements in China.
